GUWAHATI: Minister of State Health and Family Welfare Pijush Hazarika said on Saturday that the State government is ready with all necessary equipment and precautionary measures to fight Coronavirus. Hazarika said that isolated wards have been set up in the medical colleges and district hospitals in the State.

Addressing a press conference at NHM office here on Saturday, Hazarika said, “All over India a total of 31 have been detected with coronavirus in the last five days, but fortunately in Assam no one has been tested positive. During past one-and-a-half month we’ve kept everything under surveillance. We’ve screened a total of 585 passengers coming to Assam that include 265 in LGBIA, 222 in Mohanbari, 21 in Rowriah, 7 in Kumbhirgram, 25 in Lilabari and 44 in Salonibari airports. Among the 585, 112 have come from virus affected countries. They’re still under surveillance. Among the 112 from affected countries, eight have developed fever. Fortunately, 7 of them have been tested negative. The result of the rest one will come soon.”

Hazarika added, “Yesterday we’ve been informed that one person in Bhutan has been detected positive who recently visited Assam. As soon as we came to know about it, we’ve left no stone unturned to keep everything under surveillance. We’ve sensitized the resort that stayed in Jorhat and the particular floor of the hotel in Guwahati has been isolated where he stayed. We’ve also directed the cruise to quarantine in which he came to Guwahati from Jorhat. Today our medical team will take over the cruise in Nimatighat.” Hazarika further said that the department has recruited medical teams in border zones like Mankachar, Karimganj and surveillance team will be set up in Pandu Port.

Hazarika mentioned that DCs of all the districts have been directed to keep everything under surveillance and quarantine the suspicious cases. He added that interventions have also been taken for mass quarantine and so far as the N 95 mask is concerned, it’s for medical purposes only. He said that currently it’s not possible to conduct screening in railway stations. Hence the prime target is the people coming from affected countries.
