Detailed Project Report (DPR) For Rejuvenation of River Brahmaputra

GUWAHATI: As a follow-up action for the instruction to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR), a State Level Consultation meeting was held by the Rain Forest Research Institute (RFRI) Jorhat in collaboration with the department of Environment & Forest, Government of Assam for the preparation of DPR for rejuvenation of river Brahmaputra through forestry interventions at NEDFi Convention Centre on Wednesday.

The meeting was held among the stakeholders including representatives from State forest Department, NGOs, Universities, Research and Management Organizations and many others. It is to be mentioned that the ministry of Environment Forest and Climate Change (MoEF &CC), entrusted Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education(ICFRE), Dehradun to prepare DPR for rejuvenation of thirteen major rivers including Beas, Chenab, Jhelum, Ravi, Sutlej, Yamuna, Brahmaputra, Mahanadi, Narmada , Krishna, Godavari, Cauvery, and Luni. Through forestry interventions and RFRI Jorhat under Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE) was instructed to prepare a DPR for river Brahmaputra. So, in order to focus on setting up of State specific strategies, the consultation meeting was organized. The prime objectives of the project include nine broad objectives: review and assessment of the existing situation of river basin, assessing ongoing forestry activities of the states engaged in the river management programmes, assessing the conditions of riparian forests and potential of biological filters, among others.
