Guwahati: Acting on a tip-off, the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) team led by a Deputy Superintendent of Police has caught one 51-year-old (Forest Beat Officer) red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 9000 from complainant Lakhi Das of Tamulpur in Baksa district.
The accused officer identified as Dhiraj Das had demanded Rs. 3000 per month from each of the 3 Dumper Vehicles of the complainant carrying sand through his area.
As per a police report, the accused public servant had threatened that he would charge Rs 1 Lakh per vehicle from the complainant if he did not settle for the monthly arrangements.
Following this, the complainant approached the ACB PS in the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti Corruption, Assam and accordingly a trap was laid down as per standard procedure to nab the culprit red-handed.
A case has been registered at the ACB PS Case No. 21/2018.
The official was booked under section 7(a)/13(1)(b)/13(2) of PC Act (as amended in 2018).
The arrested Public Servant has been forwarded to the Special Court on Tuesday morning.
