GUWAHATI: Dispur police apprehended a youth on Monday who had stolen two mobile phones and a laptop from the house of one Rakesh Talukdar of Hengerabari on August 19. He had also allegedly threatened the victim.

An FIR was lodged by Rakesh Talukdar at Dispur PS on the same day and Dispur PS case no. 3005/21 u/a 380 IPC was registered. On August 20, the phone number was still found to be active and when Rakesh Talukdar called up in that number, the accused allegedly used abusive language, threatened him and demanded Rs 50,000 to return the stolen goods. The phone was later switched off.

According to police sources, on Monday, through technical analysis it was found that the mobile phone was in use. With continuous follow-up by ACP Dispur and CN Jitesh Singh from DCP East office, the accused was caught on Monday evening. The accused led the police to the recovery of the stolen mobile phones and the laptop. The arrested youth has been identified as Prahlad Das alias Boga, son of Dipak Das alias Dadul, resident of Naba Nagar, Hengerabari under Dispur PS.
