GUWAHATI: The Assam State Committee of the CPI (ML) alleged that the Assam Government failed to rescue and relieve the flood-affected people of the state.

In a statement issued to the media today, State CPI-ML secretary Rubul Sarma said, "The unpreparedness of the State Government to tackle natural disasters has come to the fore during this wave of floods. The flood breached many embankments overnight as the Government had not repaired them timely. It is not all. The Central Government has not sent any team to Assam to assess the flood damage, nor announced any package for the state. It is an injustice to the state. We demand the Centre sanction a Rs 2,000-crore package for flood-affected Assam. We also demand an adequate supply of baby food, general food, fodder, medicines, etc., in all flood-affected areas in the state. The Government should rehabilitate the affected people."
