GUWAHATI: Domestic air cargo is set get another boost in the Northeast region (NER) as most of the airports will be having dedicated freighter services at the cargo terminals of the Airports Authority of India (AAI). Guwahati, which is a major air hub for transportation and business center, will be connected to these services on all weekdays. Apart from this, Imphal in Manipur, Aizawl in Mizoram, Dimapur in Nagaland, Agartala in Tripura and Silchar in Assam will get this dedicated freighter's services.

The AAI Cargo logistics & Allied Services Ltd (AAICLAS), has come with separate cargo terminals at many Airports Including Guwahati, Imphal, Agartala, Silchar while some are being simultaneously operational along with the passenger terminals as per the rules by the regulatory authorities.

The new services of dedicated air cargo flights are being started by the domestic low cost carrier Spicejet as SpiceXpress. Through this, it is bringing North East India closer on the map as it is starting dedicated air cargo services in the region which will connect all the major airports together. This will open larger scope for trade and commerce besides bringing closer the farmers, manufactures and traders. The cargo routes have been connected from Kolkata, stated a release.

As per the latest information, the cargo services of Spicejet- SpiceXpress will be available on all week days on the sectors of Kolkata-Imphal and Kolkata-Guwahati. The sector of Kolkata-Aizawl connecting Aizawl-Dimapur-Guwahati will be available on Day 1 & 3 every week.

Agartala will get cargo services from Kolkata on Week-Day 2, 4 & 5 of every week and will connect Agartala-Guwahati-Kolkata sector. And Silchar in Assam will get similar services from Kolkata connecting Silchar-Guwahati-Kolkata on Week Day 6 & 7.

These destinations will be covered as air cargo stations which will promote local produce and help farmers in generating larger income opening wider scope for their products. Air cargo is preferred mode of transportation in North East due its geographical location and topography. Also, the products are mostly perishable in nature which has to be transported in time bound manner. With this, regular export of local products and commodities are expected to boost trade and commerce in the Region, the release added.
