Guwahati: After the 14-day total lockdown in Guwahati city comes into effect to Sunday midnight, only about 10% of the bank branches will be kept in the city. In these branches, only a small portion of the workforce will be allowed who will be given passes required for transit by the officials.

"Only 10% of bank branches will be opened in the districts, and the bank officials will decide which branches will function with a skeletal staff. The bank officials will give special passes to the employees who will be allowed to work. Only those employees who have been earmarked for work shall be allowed transit", Police Commissioner Munna Prasad Gupta said.

Gupta said that only 3 categories of people will be allowed to enter the city during the total lockdown period. "First, the people who have to come to Guwahati to board flights, secondly, the people who have to board trains, and thirdly, those who have come to the city due to some medical emergencies."

In regards to inter-state and inter-district movement, Gupta said that only the people with plane and train tickets shall be allowed transit. "They must keep tickets in their hands at all times. ASTC will arrange special buses, and the travelers can go to their destinations."

"If the people have letters from doctors or health officials, they will be allowed to enter Guwahati", Gupta said, adding that the patients must keep documents with them

"This lockdown will be enforced strictly to arrest the spread of the Covid-19", Gupta said, adding that the movement of individuals will be strictly restricted.

Gupta appealed people to stay indoors during the lockdown and to not venture out unless for a medical medical emergency. The Commissioner also said that violators of the rules will be booked under relevant sections of the law.
