E-Sewa Kendra inaugurated in Gauhati High Court

In order to enable the litigants to obtain information with respect to case status and to obtain copies of judgments and orders

GUWAHATI: In order to enable the litigants to obtain information with respect to case status and to obtain copies of judgments and orders, e-Sewa Kendras have been created in all the High Courts of India on a pilot basis. As a part of this initiative taken by the Supreme Court of India, the Gauhati High Court has also created an e-Sewa Kendra for rendering hassle free services to the litigants.

According to a press release, Justice Sudhansu Dhulia, Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court, on Thursday inaugurated an e-Sewa Kendra in the Old Block of the Principal Seat of the Gauhati High Court in presence of Justice N Kotiswar Singh (Judge, Administrative Department), Justice Suman Shyam (Chairperson, ICT Committee, Gauhati High Court), other Judges of the Gauhati High Court, the Advocate General of Mizoram, Standing Counsel of the Gauhati High Court, Chairman, Bar Council of NE States, lawyers and officials of the Registry.

The main objective of the e-Sewa Kendra is to facilitate those services to the litigants as well as the lawyers which are vital for the better functioning of the Court. Sewa Kendras shall initially roll out the following services for litigants and lawyers: handle inquiries about case status, next date of hearing and other details; facilitate online applications for certified copies; facilitate e-filing of petitions right from the scanning of hard copy petitions, appending e-signatures, uploading them onto CIS and generation of filing number; assist in online purchase of e-Stamp papers/e-Payments.; help in applying and obtaining Aadhaar-based digital signature; publicize and assist in downloading the Mobile App of e-Courts for Android and IOS; facilitate booking of e-Mulakat appointments for meeting relatives in jail; handle queries about Judges on leave; guide people on how to avail free legal services from the District Legal Service Authority, High Court Legal Service Committee and Supreme Court Legal Service Committee; facilitate disposal of traffic challans in virtual Courts as also online compounding of traffic challans and other petty offences; explain the method of arranging and holding a video conference court hearing; and provide soft copies of judicial orders/judgments via email, WhatsApp or any other available mode.

The creation of the e-Sewa Kendra is a significant step for the lawyers in handling the cases and for the common man in his claim for justice, the press release added.
