Election Commission of India granted Postal-ballot facility to media persons

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has granted postal-ballot facilities to the media persons authorized by the former for the poll day.

GUWAHATI: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has granted postal-ballot facilities to the media persons authorized by the former for the poll day.

The ECI has notified the category of electors under clause (C) of Section - 60 of the Representation of People Act, 1951.

According to the ECI, voting through postal ballot will be allowed for absentee voters employed in - essential services like electricity department, BSNL, Railways, health workers under health department, aviation, officials under long distance services of Assam State Transport Corporation, fire services, traffic police, ambulance services under health department, shipping and media persons authorized by ECI for the poll day. This facility of postal ballot has been introduced to facilitate voters on account of being duty on the day of poll.

The ECI has asked the designated departments to nominate a nodal officer for the purpose of postal ballot facility and to inform the electors concerned about the facility. Copies of Form 12D appended to the conduct of elections Rule 1961 will be made available to the Nodal officer.
