Employment Promises Still Remain Empty: All Assam Martyrs-Victims’ Family Council

STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI: The All Assam Martyrs-Victims’ Family Council has raised the issue of the un-fulfillment of job opportunities promised to them and demanded the same for the families of the martyred during the Assam Agitation.

At a press meet on Saturday, the council Chief Secretary, Manik Chandra Debnath placed four demands towards the BJP led government. He stated that the Assam Accord Implementation Minister should provide employment opportunities to the family members of Assam martyrs.

On June 20, 2018, the Water Resource Department under APS PA Rule-1999, provided job opportunities to certain martyr families. However, other departments have not done the same and the council questioned about employment opportunities for the remaining 400 members of martyrs’ family members.

When the Sarbananda Sonowal led government came into power on May, 2016, the government took a 100 days programme where 315 members were assured jobs along with aid of Rs 3 lakh. The council alleged that the same was never fulfilled and demanded an answer for the time duration.

Lastly, the council expressed their gratitude at the aid of Rs 2 lakh provided by the government for the bullet-wounded family members and urged that the same is provided for the family members of the Assam Agitation martyrs.
