GUWAHATI: The State Annual Budget presented by Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday has a fresh scheme for senior journalists.

Under this scheme, twenty senior journalists of the States will be given financial ex gratia of Rs 50,000 every year.

In January 30, the Assam Press Correspondents’ Union (APCU) submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister and the Finance Minister requesting them for such a scheme for journalists. Chief Minister’s media adviser Hrishikesh Goswami was also kept informed of the matter. With the request being reflected in the Budget, the APCU thanked the Chief Minister, the Finance Minister and the media adviser to the Chief Minister.

This apart, the Budget has allocations for the ongoing schemes meant for journalists – journalists’ pension scheme, journalists’ family benefit fund, media fellowship, good will tour for media persons etc.
