Guwahati: In a major boost to the medical science that too in Assam, the Excel care Hospitals had managed to conduct a successful workshop on interventions in Congenital Heart Disease in Guwahati.

At least 3 cases of Atrial Septal Defect were being treated successfully in the city.

Atrial Septal Defect is a congenital defect where a communication or hole remains between the left and right atria of the heart.

These defects were occluded with special devices introduced through the peripheral veins, thus, avoiding the cardiac surgery in all these patients.

It may be mentioned that all the three patients were young females and they were benefitted from this procedure as cardiac surgery would result in permanent chest scar. Out of the three, one of the patients is a resident of Bangladesh.

A team of doctors, comprising senior Paediatric Cardiologist, Dr Viresh Mahajan, Dr Himangshu Tyagi and doctors of Excel care Hospitals, Dr Dhanjit Nath, Dr Amitava Mishra, Dr Neil Bordoloi and Dr Nabarup Dutta Baruah performed these complex procedures.

It may further be mentioned that Excelcare hospitals are actively engaged in treating congenital heart disease both by devices and open heart surgery.

There are reports, that many Atal Amrit Abhiyaan cardholders have been benefitted from this initiative.
