Export Consignment of Organic Ginger And Turmeric Flagged Off

GUWAHATI: Rajesh Prasad, IAS, Principal Secretary & APC, Government of Assam formally flagged off first export consignment of organic fresh Ginger and Turmeric in a ceremony held at Momai Tamuli Barboruah Training Centre, Directorate of Horticulture & Food Processing, Assam on Monday.

It may be mentioned that 2 MT fresh Ginger and Turmeric produced by Tetelia Agro Organic Producer Company Ltd, Kamrup under Mission for Organic Value Chain Development for NER (MOVCDNER) is to be exported today to Swaziland, Africa in collaboration with Greencover Overseas, Guwahati. They have already received order for 150 MT organic fresh Ginger and Turmeric.

In this connection, Rajesh Prasad, IAS, Principal Secretary & APC, Government of Assam expressed his satisfaction on the performance of this Farmer Producer Company where 414 numbers of farmers associated covering 500 hectare of land. He appealed to all the farmers to avail such golden opportunity to export their produces with the help of department and earn remunerative price.

Further, it may be mentioned that there are 15 numbers of FPC under RKVY and 10 numbers FPC under MOVCDNER functioning in different districts of Assam. Prasad instructed departmental officials to form another 100 Farmer Producer Company (FPC) covering different districts of Assam in coming days. M S Manivannan, IAS, Secretary & Director of Agriculture, Assam expressed hope that farmers will come forward to export different prime products of Assam like red rice, black rice, spices etc after fulfilling newly adopted agricultural export policy. Dr Pranab Kumar Mahanta, Joint Director (Horticulture) made a brief presentation on the progress of MOVCD scheme in Assam. Mahendra Krishna Saikia, Partner, Greencover Overseas, Guwahati shared his experience regarding export of organic produce from this region and urged the farmers to follow the procedure as per norms for successful completion. Initially Prabin Hazarika, Director of Horticulture & FP, Assam delivered the welcome speech and thanked all the participants including officials from Spice Board, NEDFI, APEDA, CEO & Board of Directors of different FPC and farmers present in the event.
