GUWAHATI: State Agriculture Minister Atul Bora has appealed to the banks to extend loans to the farmers to boost agriculture in the state. The minister said this while speaking at a workshop on the 'Agriculture Infrastructure Fund (AIF) Scheme' organized by the State Agriculture Department at Assam Administrative Staff College. Representatives from various banks and senior officials were present at the workshop.

Bora said, "Some banks give farmers cold shoulders in KCC, PM Kisan etc., schemes related to agriculture. I appeal to the banks to show a positive gesture in giving loans to farmers for the implementation of various agriculture schemes and help the vision of the Prime Minister and the State government to boost agriculture in the state. Our thrust is to double farmers' income."

Bora lauded the role of NABARD for playing important for the cultivation of millets in 23 districts of Assam. "The farmers of Majuli have made profits by selling millets," he said.
