False Campaign by Congress, ACMS Workers in TEs: BJP

GUWAHATI: The BJP Assam Pradesh has alleged that the Congress and the ACMS (Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangha) have been misleading tea garden labourers on the CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act) through their false campaign on the provisions of the Act.

Addressing a press conference at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan here on Sunday, State BJP’s Tea Morcha president Prahlad Gowala said, “Congress and ACMS workers have been involved in a false propaganda on the CAA. They spread falsehood that lakhs of Hindu Bangladeshis will be given settlement in tea gardens, a move that’s set to make the current tea workers jobless. Such a campaign by the Congress and the ACMS has no basis. They also campaign that if the BJP makes it to Dispur again they will stop providing rations being supplied to them now. They even scare the garden workers that the State government will deduct the Rs 5,000 each deposited in their bank accounts from their Provident Fund (PF) deposits.”

Gowala said, “The Congress, which only used the Tea Bribes as vote banks over the years, is scared of the rise of the BJP in Assam. When the Congress was in power, it took no measures for the development of the tea community in the State. And that led the tea garden people voting the BJP to power by rejecting the Congress. After the BJP coming to power in the State, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal took a number of schemes for the welfare of the tea community. Some of the schemes are paving roads in labour lines, Rs 12,000 for each expecting women of the community, Rs 25,000 as grants for self-help groups, students’ scholarship amounting to Rs 10,000, providing auto vans to unemployed youth, appointment of two additional teachers in each of 428 schools in tea garden areas, setting up of hospitals in ATC (Assam Tea Company) gardens, extending medical services through mobile medical units etc. All such schemes which the Congress never thought of have made them to opt for the false campaign against the BJP. We’ve nothing to say on their agitation against the CAA. We, however, can’t tolerate their false propaganda on the Act.”
