GUWAHATI: Due to receding trend of the River Brahmaputra and taking into consideration public demand, the Inland Water Transport Division has allowed ferries to operate up to 8 pm.

The District Magistrate of the Kamrup (metro) district received a letter from the Executive Engineer of the Inland Water Transport Division, Guwahati that it was safe to resume ferry services. Accordingly, the District Magistrate on Tuesday issued an order allowing the operation of ferry services in Guwahati up to 8 pm by observing all pre-cautionary measures.

The ferry services of the Inland Water Transport Division were suspended in view of the rising waters of the Brahmaputra between North Guwahati and Guwahati.
