Flyover in Guwahati's Ganeshguri likely to be opened on Durga Puja: Himanta Biswa Sarma

Guwahati: Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma today announced that the construction of the Ganeshguri flyover in Guwahati city shall likely be completed by Durga Puja in 2020.

The minister, speaking during the inauguration of the ropeway over the Brahmaputra city, said that one by one, the schemes and initiatives launched in Guwahati city are nearing completion.

"Last October we began operations to construct a flyover in Guwahati's Ganeshguri and we resolved to complete the flyover by the month of October this year, in 2020. We believe that the bridge shall be opened for the public of Assam on the shashthi (sixth day) of Durga puja", announced Sarma.

The 476-meter flyover is being built under State Own Priority Scheme-General with a financial outlay of Rs 58.76 crore.

Sarma also announced that the work on the under-construction T-shaped flyover in the city's Supermarket bridge shall be completed before the people head to the polling booths in 2021.

"Although I cannot be sure, I am 80% confident that the flyover in Supermarket shall be opened for public usage by Bohag Bihu 2020", the minister said.

Sarma also declared that as work on as many as 9 foot overbridges in Guwahati has already begun. "We intend to launch all 9 of these foot overbridges at once in the month of February", announced Sarma, adding that they will all have elevators.

The minister also announced that the bridge connecting Bharalumukh to the under-construction of the AIIMS in Changsari has also been completed by 25%.

"This will drastically reduce the time needed to reach the AIIMS that is being constructed in Changsari. The AIIMS shall be completed by next year. However, the classes shall begin later this year in November", said Sarma.

Sarma also expressed hope that the "decongestion" of Guwahati will lead it towards becoming one of the foremost cities in the entire nation.

"The first part of the Guwahati masterplan was to bind Guwahati with something resembling the Ring Road in New Delhi", Sarma said, adding, "If the Guwahati-North Guwahati bridge is completed, the Sualkuchi-Palashbari bridge, and the Puruwa and Noonmati bridge are completed, the city will combine with the beauty to become one of the most picturesque cities in the entire country."
