Former CM Tarun Gogoi slams Bharatiya Janata Party for stirring communal disparity

STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI: Ex Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi claimed that the popularity of Modi is fading and BJP is trying to woo in voters by causing a communal disparity. Addressing the press on Saturday, Gogoi stated that even with the Congress government starting the NRC process a long time back, the BJP government failed to complete it in the last five years.

He recalled the BJP party claiming to chase away illegal immigrants and questioned when they would start deporting. “As per BJP National President Amit Shah, through NRC, 40 lakh Bangladeshis have been identified so far. If this is true, I am really keen on knowing how their names have been cleared for 2019 electoral rolls, since the BJP is running both the centre and state”, inquired Gogoi.

Gogoi further claimed that the popularity that surrounded Modi way back on 2014 has faded in 2019 elections. “2014 saw Modi’s walk of victory and 2019 will see Modi’s funeral walk”, he said. “The BJP has stirred communal disparity in campaigns with the power of money. Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma and Party President Ranjit Kumar Dass commented that visiting Barpeta and Dhubri felt more like visiting Bangladesh. Meanwhile Dass questioned the month long bandh during Ramjaan. This election is a war for the people of Assam. BJP on the one hand utters communal slurs and on the other hand, asks for votes in the name of Allah. The party went so far as to assert that people do not vote for BJP, Allah will punish them. This statement violates the Code of Conduct and we will take the matter before the Election Commissioner”, said Gogoi.

Alleging that the wealth of BJP has vastly increased, Gogoi challenged that if the BJP ministers can announce their wealth from 2001 till present, the Congress party will do so as well and this will make things clear for the public. He also alleged that AIUDF President Badruddin Ajmal’s wealth has increased almost 80 percent since the past five years because of the party’s alliance with BJP. Gogoi alleged that initially, the property worth of Ajmal was 43.27 crore which has reached 78.8 crore at present.
