Former Kampur College incharge principal held for corruption

GUWAHATI: Principal Kampur College Harekrishna Deva Sarmah submitted an allegation petition against Hirendra Nath Sarma, the then incharge principal of Kampur College for misappropriation of government fund/ UGC fund. On the basis of the allegation, regular enquiry no. 18/2018 was initiated as per government approval.

During the inquiry it was revealed that Hirendra Nath Sarma misappropriated the government fund and UGC fund allocated for construction of indoor stadium (UGC fund), books, journals and equipment for the library (from UGC fund), infrastructure development (fund provided by State government), purchase of GIS and Remote Sensing Software for Geography Department, construction of septic tank and flood lighting of volleyball/basketball court without carrying out any of these works. Thus, he misappropriated a large part of government funds amounting to Rs 35,64,164 provided by UGC and State government. Hence FIR was lodged against him on December 4, 2018 and thereafter Vigilance PS case no. 02/19 U/S-406/409/420/468/471 IPC R/W Section 13 (2) Amendment 2018 P.C Act was registered. During investigation, the accused Hirendra Nath Sarma, a resident of Beltola, Guwahati was found to be absconding evading police arrest but to the persistent efforts by the investigating officer, Amrit Kalita, DySP, Chief Minister's Special Vigilance Cell, he was arrested on October 5 and produced before the special Judge, Assam on the same day. He is remanded in police custody for a period of three days for interrogation and necessary follow up actions, stated a release.
