Foundation-laying ceremony for longest flyover on Sunday

STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI: The foundation stone laying ceremony for the 1.5 km-long T-shaped double-lane flyover at Dispur Supermarket on the Guwahati-Shillong (GS) Road will be laid on Sunday by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal in presence of PWD Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Once completed, the flyover will be the longest in the entire north-eastern region. The proposed flyover is in addition to the one that is under construction at Ganeshguri. The PWD is hopeful that the flyover will ease traffic congestion at Dispur Supermarket to a large extent.

The flyover will start in front of the Janata Bhawan at Dispur and end at the Down Town police point. On the other hand, the right-side bifurcation will start from the Dispur Supermarket junction to terminate before the traffic roundabout (Golchakkar) at Last Gate.

The approximate cost of this project under the SOPD (State Owned Priority Development) scheme is about Rs 100 crore. The project completion time is three years. The contract for construction of the flyover has already been awarded. To ensure uninterrupted traffic communication during the flyover-construction phase, the PWD has already carried out a survey and prepared a report, which it will share with the Guwahati traffic police authority.
