Four Home Guards Land In Jail For Taking Cash From Train Passenger

GUWAHATI: Four home guard personnel attached to the GRP outpost at Kamakhya Railway Station in Guwahati have landed in jail for taking cash from a train passenger. This is a magic that smart policing can do. The arrest of the four personnel could be made within 12 hours of committing the alleged crime.

According to Kamakhya Railway Station GRP outpost sources, one Bijay Kumar Rawani from Shillong was travelling by the Down North East Express on Saturday. Rawani, accompanied by his brother, took a selfie in the railway station. Four home guard personnel – Atowar Rahman, Khasnur Ali, Farajul Ali and Khalek Ali – made an issue out of the matter and demanded Rs 50,000 from Rawani. Rawani paid Rs 10,000 to the home guard personnel and let the Assam Police control room of the incident over telephone. The police control room soon informed New Bongaigaon GRP station of the matter. As soon as Rawani reached New Bongaigaon, GRP personnel collected the FIR from him. Receiving information in that regard from New Bongaigaon GRP station, GRP personnel at Kamakhya outpost arrested the four home guard personnel last night and recovered Rs 7,460 from their possession.

The GRP personnel filed a case (90/19 u/s 384/34 IPC) against the four home guard personnel at the GRP thana at Guwahati Railway Station. The four were produced before the court on Sunday. The court sent them to judicial custody.
