Fraud Delhi traders under Basistha police radar

STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, July 16: A friend in need is a friend indeed. This saying best describes the solidarity being maintained by two friends, Herendra Singh and Ranveer Singh from Delhi, both of whom are sound traders. However, a fraudulent act committed by them upon another accomplice Balwan Bhama has turned the literal meaning of the phrase quite comical.

According to police sources, Balwan, a trader from Beltola, Guwahati, who is also the secretary of the Kamakyha Trade and Transport Association, used to supply coal from Guwahati to Delhi in the name of both Ranveer and Harendra. They had been in the usual deal for at least eight years. However, as long as the outstanding amount went beyond Rs 1.32 crore, Bhama requested for his due amount. However, Ranveer and Harendra started threatening Bhama in response.

Caught in a cleft stick, Bhama lodged an FIR against the duo at Basistha police last year. Accordingly, a case (Case No 879/17 u/s 420/406/409) was registered following which Basistha police initiated investigation. After a thorough examination of the complaint, the Basistha police arrested Harendra Singh from the Jyoti Nagar area of Delhi on Sunday. After taking transit remand from the Karkarduma Court, Delhi, Harendra was brought to Guwahati by flight yesterday.

It was comical enough that, the other accused Ranveer was on board in the same flight. However, he did not know that he was also accused in the FIR. He was coming to Guwahati to provide legal aid to his friend Harendra in Guwahati. As soon as the flight landed at LGBI Airport, the police also arrested Ranveer immediately.
