Free skill development training organized at Don Bosco University

GUWAHATI: Assam Don Bosco University (ADBU) imparted a week-long free skill development training for 54 unemployed youths to make them employable in the competitive job market.

The School of Technology of ADBU organized the training under Swabalamban-2019 at the varsity’s Azara campus from March 11 to 16. The Numaligarh Refinery Limited under its CSR scheme provided free training in the field of Welding & Fitting, Carpentry, Bar Bending and Masonry. The unemployed youths from neighbouring areas of NRL successfully completed the training programme.

Swabalamban is a social commitment programme organized by the School of Technology, ADBU aims at developing and enhancing the skills of the youth in order to solve the problem of unemployment by training them in various fields of skill development.

During the Welding & Fitting and Carpentry programme, the trainees were briefed about the basic theory of the tools and machineries along with hands-on sessions. Mason training participants, under the supervision of an expert mason, gained hands-on experience in constructing brick walls, plastering of walls and casting of RCC. The Bar Bending programme provided hands-on experience in selecting, cutting and bending steel bars, laying bars in place of reinforcement and various safety requirements at the construction site.

At the valedictory session held on Saturday, certificates were given to the participants with a hope that they will continue their work in future and they will make themselves self-employed
