GUWAHATI: The AJP (Assam Jatiya Parishad) has appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi not to give any new assurances to the people of Assam as that will only make his list of false promises to them longer.

Addressing the media at AJP office here on Monday, AJP general secretary Jagadish Bhuyan said, "Let the Prime Minister meet the assurances given by him in 2014 and 2016. The people of Assam don't want any more assurances from him as he hasn't met the old promises as yet.

"Let the Prime Minister make public as to how many Bangladeshis staying illegally in the State have been deported after May 16, 2014. The Prime Minister should make the people of the State known as to what measures he has taken for the all-round development of Assam and other States of the region which he has christened as 'Astolakshmi'.

"The Prime Minister showed no responsibility in the implementation of Clauses V and VI of the Assam Accord. The Centre even didn't show any eagerness to receive the report of the high-level committee on Clause VI of the Accord. In such a situation, if the Prime Minister makes fresh promises, that will only make his list of false promises longer." Bhuyan has demanded of the State government to publish a while paper on the economy of the State from 2016-2021.

"The BJP-led State government has taken Rs 46,000 crore as loans. No government in the past did take such a huge amount as loan in a term of five years. It seems that from 2016 to 2020 the government paid only interest of the loan amount. The entire loan amount has been spent in creating beneficiaries for the sake of votes. "This government has tabled five budgets. The Finance Minister has claimed to have implemented 90 per cent of budget proposals. This is a blatant lie. From fiscal 2016-17 to 2019-20 this government has not been able to spend around Rs 1.35 lakh crore."
