GUWAHATI: A section of students of the Gauhati Commerce College (GCC) on Saturday threatened the college authority to boycott election in protests against the rejection of a candidate’s nomination.

Notably, the nomination of one Abhishek Paul who submitted nomination for the candidature of general secretary was rejected allegedly for mismatch of a letter in his name by the College authority following which a section of students staged a protest in the college premises on Saturday and shouted slogan to boycott the election.

In this regard, talking to The Sentinel, GCC principal Dr Homeswar Kalita said that the matter has been considered for reexamination. “All-out efforts are on to find an amicable solution to the concern of the students,” he said.

Contrary, the protesting students alleged that an affidavit in support of the spelling mismatch of Abhishek Paul was submitted along with the nomination which was allegedly neglected by the screening committee of the GCC.
