Gauhati HC Grants Anticipatory Bail to Modern High School Principal

GUWAHATI: The Gauhati High Court granted anticipatory bail to Jonali Das, the principal of a private school in Guwahati, Modern High School.

Notably, the principal was accused of verbally abusing a class VIII student who later committed suicide.

It is to be mentioned here that the deceased student died on Sunday in a private hospital in Guwahati. The student attempted suicide by jumping from the fifth level of the school at 11:30 a.m. on Friday.

The girl family claims that the school principal, Jonali Das, mentally harassed the girl.

The Class VIII student attempted suicide by jumping from the fifth floor of the school building after being verbally attacked by the principal. At 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, the girl died as a result of her injuries.

The Deori People's Forum staged a protest and locked the school where she was a student when word of her death spread. A large number of people from Deori village blocked the school's access road as part of the protest.

The police filed an objection to the bail, claim that during the investigation, it was discovered that the girl was dating Rishikesh Das, the niece of the accused principal Das.

It has been alleged that the school principal had verbally abused the girl during the school's Sports Week.

Immediately after being abused by the principal, the Class VIII student made a suicide attempt by jumping off the fifth floor of the school's building.

A large number of people from the Deori community blocked the approach road towards the school as part of the protest.

Despite the fact that the accused principal was given bail, the court set conditions, including the necessity that she not leave the Dispur police station's geographical area without written permission from the OC.

She was also ordered to cooperate with the police and other officials in case-related matters, and her statement was due in a week.

Meanwhile, members of the Deuri students' organisation protested the accused principal's bail at Dispur's Ganesh Mandir area.
