GUWAHATI: The Gauhati High Court on Thursday rejected the bail of fraudster Mridupaban Neog who has been absconding since the last three months.

The court of Justice Hitesh Kumar Sarma rejected the bail petition of Neog after it came for hearing. Opposing his bail plea, advocate Makhan Phukan presented his argument from the government side. Several cases have been registered against Neog in various police stations.

At the Nagaon police station a fraud case (2328/21 u/s 406/420/170/171/506/507/34 IPC) has been registered against him in connection with duping a car dealer of Rs 30 lakh. A case under the Wildlife Protection Act has also been lodged against Neog after several organs of wild animals were recovered from his residence.

Mridupaban Neog used to dupe his victims by faking identity as a top Government of India official. The police during earlier raids had found a pistol, 20 live rounds, gold jewellery worth lakhs, a large quantity of foreign liquor, many fake documents and stickers of various government departments. All of the accused vehicles and even his home had the Government of India stickers pasted.
