Gauhati High Court stays bail of KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi

GAUHATI: Gauhati High Court has put a stay on order passed by NIA Court directing bail of KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi.

On April 1, Gogoi was arrested by Dibrugarh police for under a case filed against him at Chabua police station.

He was arrested before the hearing of the case could take place at Sivsagar jail. The due date for the hearing was in fact today.

Gogoi said that the arrest was illegal as police did not have any warrant to make the arrest.

He also urged people of Assam to follow this lockdown and mentioned that the state government should focus on vulnerable communities such as tea garden workers and jail inmates where this virus can easily spread. He also condemned violence by police against people not following the lockdown and said that it is a state conspiracy. His views on CAA stay the same, Gogoi told media.

Just a few days ago, the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court had granted bail to Gogoi.
