Gauhati University drops appointment of contractual teachers
The Gauhati University (GU) has stopped the appointment of all teaching staff on a contractual basis with effect from June 30, 2021.

GUWAHATI: The Gauhati University (GU) has stopped the appointment of all teaching staff on a contractual basis with effect from June 30, 2021.
The notice issued by the GU Registrar comes as a direction from the Chancellor of the University, to stop the contractual appointment of all teaching faculty with effect from 30/06/2021.
The notice stated that the decision is also applicable to all teachers who were supposed to continue their service beyond 30/06/2021.
According to sources, the untimely decision is expected to receive a massive backlash on Monday. A source stated that the classes will be interrupted since the teachers 'suspended' from duty will not take any classes.
Meanwhile, students of the university through social media expressed their concern over the 'existing' shortage of teaching faculty. They stated that the further dismissal of teachers will lead to academic hazards in the University.
