GUWAHATI: The Post Graduate Students' Union of Gauhati University, on Tuesday, stated that it is impossible for students to appear in the examinations on the basis of online classes that are currently going on.

Addressing the press on Tuesday, GUPGSU general secretary Moon Talukdar said, "Many of the students of the State don't have access to a smartphone for which they are unable to attend the online classes. The electricity and network issues also adds to their problem. Concerning the matter that all institutions are closed since March 16, it is impossible for the students to appear in examinations on the basis of a few online classes."

Talukdar said that the Union opposes the decision made by the Directorate of Technical Education, Assam to conduct the examinations in June. Demanding the government to ensure the educational aspect of every student, Talukdar said that examination should be conducted only after conduction of two months of classes in physical classrooms in graduate and post-graduate level.

The Union further appealed the government not to convert the college and universities into quarantine centers and urged to take concerned initiative for those students who are still stranded in other districts.
