Gauhati University to hold offline exams after COVID situation reverts to normalcy

GUWAHATI: In view of the COVID-19 situation, the Gauhati University (GU) has postponed all UG and PG examinations of the University and in its affiliated colleges for the time being.

After discussing the nature of internet connectivity available to all students, the university has stated that the examinations will be held in offline mode with 20 days prior notification after the situation reverts to normalcy.

The GU underlined that there are about 2.5 lakh students located in different remote areas who also lack suitable electronic gadgets like laptop, smartphones etc.

The decisions were taken during an urgent meeting held in the P.D. Seminar Hall of the University under the Chairmanship of GU Vice-Chancellor Professor Pratap Jyoti Handique. The meeting was attended by the presidents and the general secretaries of Gauhati University Teachers' Association, Heads of the teaching departments as well as the Registrar, and the Controller of Examination, among others.

It also discussed the safety and security of the students in particular in view of the ensuing examinations with particular focus as to how to avoid loss of academic session in response to the appeal made by the GU Vice-Chancellor. The meeting took into consideration the available feasibility and relevant provisions of the regulatory authorities in detail and took the following decisions —

 All classes of all semesters will be started from the 1st week of May 2021 in the offline and online modes as per feasibility depending on local situations in different places/ institutions.

 If the current situation persists, the decisions as mentioned above will be reviewed as per requirement.

 In the interest of the students in particular and all citizens of the State, the meeting appealed to everyone to take care of their physical and mental health.
