GUWAHATI: The first meeting of the newly formed executive committee of the State BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) was held at the Srimanta Sankaradev Kalakshetra on Friday.

Addressing the meeting, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal asked the party workers to brace themselves for the Assam Election 2021 Polls. He said that the main agenda of the party should be to establish Assam as a powerful State across the nation.

"During the British rule, Assam was the fifth most powerful State in the country but due to the bad governance of the Congress we lost the position. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, various developmental works have been implemented both in Assam and the Northeast. Our government has introduced various schemes for the welfare of the people," he said.

Sonowal appealed to the party workers to spread the works of the government to the public. He asked the workers to introduce the developmental works to 70 lakh families in the State.

Party general secretary Ram Madhav in his address claimed that the Congress party will not come to power either in 2024 or 2029 elections. Situation of the Congress party is worsening. It has no leader both in the State and Central level, he stated.

Madhav added that organizationally State BJP is very strong. Elaborating his statement, he said, "When we came to power in 2016, the party situation was not in our favour. Though, we formed government at the Centre in 2014, but we lost elections in various States including Bihar, and Delhi. Thus, we gave prime focus on the 2016 Assam Election. However, at that time our party was not strong and we struggled to find candidates. But the BJP and its alliances got 86 Assembly Seats. In the current scenario, we have set a target to win 100 seats."

Further, the general secretary stressed that the Congress and the AIUDF is going to form an alliance. "Various analysts have suggested that the upcoming alliance will be tough due to the Congress and AIUDF alliance. But politics is not Mathematics, it is Chemistry. In elections the BJP will do well in Chemistry," he asserted.

Further, Madhav termed the Congress and AIUDF alliance as an alliance between corruption and infiltration. This alliance will not be successful in the Assam Polls, he claimed.

"We should not seek to be elected for tenure of five years but 15 years," Madhav stated.

We are evident that we will win the next Bihar Election and our target is the West Bengal polls, he added.

Addressing the meeting, State BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass said the BJP government will again come to power in 2021. He said due to the alliance of the Congress and the AIUDF, the BJP will get more seats.

In the meeting, the BJP accepted four resolutions from the executive committee.

The committee said that the Congress rule of 55 years has disrupted the economy and demography of the State with bad governance, and corruption.

"The party should be vigil so that the alliance of the Congress and the AIUDF cannot harm the State again," it said.

Other resolution of the committee includes - Atmanirbhar Bharat-Atmanirbhar Assam, welfare schemes for the tea workers and COVID-19 and flood situation of the State.

NEDA convenor Himanta Biswa Sarma was also present in the meeting and Union Minister for Textile Industry, Women and Child Welfare Smriti Irani virtually adressed the workers from Delhi.

Several executive members including Ministers, MLAs, and MPs were present among others in the first ever meeting of the new committee.
