GMC to Reward for Info on Citizens Littering Public Place, Issues WhatsApp Numbers
GUWAHATI: The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has warned that they will penalize people even for spitting on footpaths, streets or public places.
Recently via print and electronic media, it has come to the notice of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation that a section of people lacking in civic sense have been constantly defacing public places and properties, especially the newly inaugurated/ opened Dispur Flyover which was littered by spitting pan/ gutkas on the paintings of its walls and pasting advertisement posters/ bills on its pillars;
Whereas, such activities are anti-thesis to the civilised society and it brings bad name/ image of the community at large; Whereas, there are Guwahati Municipal Corporation byelaws relating to sticking of posters/ bills in public or municipal places and spitting of pan/ gutkas, etc in the time of COVID-19 pandemic can facilitate the spread of the disease further;
Therefore, in order to maintain public health, safety and morality, the undersigned has taken the following directives to enforce the prohibition of spitting/ sticking of bills in public places within the Guwahati Municipal area;
1. A fine of Rs. 1000.00 will be imposed on violators on first offence. However, repetitive/ habitual offenders will be slapped with higher penalty.
2. Guwahati Municipal Corporation will register FIRs against these offenders if needed under its laws/ byelaws.
3. Various groups/ agencies who pasted posters/ bills without the permission of the Corporation are directed/ ordered to remove them within 15 (Fifteen) days or shall face legal actions.
4. Guwahati Municipal Corporation has opened 4 (Four) WhatsApp numbers for citizens to post pictures of offenders/ violators spitting or littering the cityscapes. The numbers are as follows-8811007000, 7399003001, 7399003002 and 7399003004.
5. The Corporation has announced a cash reward of Rs. 1000.00 for such images, if found authentic.
This notification conies into force with immediate effect.
