Goddess’ Arrival On Horse, Durga Puja Celebrations Begin

GUWAHATI: The people of the city have plunged into the festive spirit of the Durga Puja celebration. The devotees are all set to worship the deity with deep devotion, installing her on the altar on Friday on Sasthi Tithi, the auspicious time for the rituals (belboron) to begin at 6 pm.

According to the almanac, the goddess would be arriving on the October 4 and would leave earth on October 8. This year, she would be coming riding a horse (ghotok) and would also leave riding a horse. Her mode of travel also has great significance for the people —as that might signal prosperity or adversity.

A strong wave of enthusiasm and fervor has gripped the people here. All the busy streets of the town are getting busier with people thronging them in large numbers in pursuit of their shopping needs. People across all ages are seen flocking the convenience stores of clothing, while many others continue swarming into the shopping malls.
