GUWAHATI: The Guwahati Police has unearthed more evidence in the case regarding the transit of 835 gm gold.

According to a police source, the investigation team has identified the accounts of two GRP (Government Railway Police) Home Guards through which Rs 30 lakh was transacted.

The source underlined that a group of GRP personnel are grabbing illegal gold from passengers while conducting routine checks. After grabbing the gold, the personnel keep a huge part for themselves and hand over the rest to the passenger, the source said.

"If a person refuses to hand over the gold, then only his/she is taken to the Police Station. Meanwhile, the police have recorded the statements of the two Home Guards before the CJM Court. The investigation team has also found the evidence of transaction from the account of a lady Constable," the source added.

It is to be noted that the involvement of police personnel in the transit of gold came to light after the arrest of Sub Inspector Badri Prasad Baruwati.

He was arrested in connection to the seizure of 835 gm gold from two persons - Manoj Shah and Arman Ali who were caught from the Bharalumukh area on June 15.
