Good News for Class 12 students, IIT-Guwahati to set up extension centres in Northeast

Guwahati: Good news for the class 12 students of the state-run schools, as the prestigious engineering institute IIT-Guwahati is planning set up extension centres in the entire northeastern states in order to conduct more exposure visits at its campus.

Speaking to the media, Director, IIT Guwahati, TG Sitharam said that IIT-Guwahati is planning to expand the reach of the institution to other parts of the northeast by opening extension centres with necessary approval from the HRD Ministry.

It is to be noted that TG Sitharam took charge as the Director at the prestigious engineering institute earlier this month.

Sitharam also stated that the institute is planning to run programmes to bring several Class 12 students from 12 government-run schools of northeastern states to the IIT-Guwahati campus for an exposure visit.

During this exposure visit, students will get a chance to visit research facilities and interact with the faculty at the institute, informed the Director.

Apart from this, the institute also plans to create an awareness and training programme for the rural masses about rural technologies which IIT-Guwahati is working on, stated Sitharam further.

It may also be mentioned that recently Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' had visited the IIT-Guwahati campus and identified some key focus areas for the institute and accordingly directed to collaborate with other esteemed institutes in the country along with institutes of the Northeastern regions. “IIT-Guwahati is committed to working in this direction so that the institute can extend its contribution towards the development of the nation, added Sitharam.
