GUWAHATI: Goria Moria Deshi Jatiyo Parishad (GMDJP) celebrated its 15th Foundation Day at the Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra on Feb 4 and 5.
Several leaders of various indigenous organizations were present at the event. In the meeting, indigenous Muslims of Assam expressed that the identity of the community is at a threat due to infiltrators. The president of GMDJP Hafizul Ahmed in his inauguration speech said that the indigenous Muslims of organizations like Goria Moria Deshi Jatiyo Parishad are converted from other ethnic communities from the state. Ahmed said that these indigenous Muslims are not being given a separate identity and are being counted among the infiltrators. "As they are being considered among the minorities, they are often brought under the same banner with the infiltrators. We demanded a survey from the government to know about the present status of these people, like population, literacy rate, socio-economic conditions to distinguish them from the infiltrators" added Ahmed.
