Government Railway Police seizes opium worth Rs 1.4 crore in Guwahati, two arrested

GUWAHATI: Personnel of the Government Railway Police (GRP) on Sunday seized opium worth Rs 1.4 crore and arrested two men in connection with the incident. GRP sources identified the arrested duo as Abhyas Kumar and Sumal Kumar, both residents of Bihar and said that they were carrying the opium from Dimapur to Bihar.

During body-search of the duo, GRP recovered about 2.042 kg of opium which they had concealed in their undergarments.

In another development on Monday, GRP personnel seized 140 packets of contraband foreign cigarettes, worth around Rs 2 lakh, from the Rajdhani Express at the Guwahati Railway Station and arrested one person in this connection. GRP sources identified the arrested person as Indrajit Singh, a resident of Manipur. Singh boarded the train in Dimapur, the sources added.
