GUWAHATI, April 7: Assam Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi and Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal condoled the sudden demise of noted filmmaker Munin Barua.
In a condolence message, Prof. Mukhi termed Munin Barua a towering figure who contributed immensely to the enrichment of Assamese films in the State. “I pray to the Almighty for eterl peace of the departed soul,” the Governor said and expressed deepest sympathy to the bereaved family members.
In a separate statement, Chief Minister Sonowal termed the death of the filmmaker as an irreparable loss to the Assamese film and drama industry. “With many of his popular movies like Prabhati Pakhir Gaan, Daag, yak, Hiya Diya Niya, Bidhata, Barood, Dibandhu, Ramdhenu etc., Munin Baruah left an indelible mark in the Assamese film industry. He gave a renewed momentum to the film industry in Assam and his contributions would always remain our priceless possession. Late Baruah devoted his entire life for the excellence of the film and drama industry in Assam and the void created by his passing away would never be fulfilled,” Sonowal said. The Chief Minister also expressed his deepest sympathies with the bereaved family and prayed for eterl peace of the departed soul.
State Industries and Commerce Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary also condoled the demise of the filmmaker. He also prayed to the Almighty for eterl peace of the departed soul and extended his condolences to members of the bereaved family.
State Cultural Affairs Minister ba Kumar Doley, State BJP president Ranjit Kumar Dass, APCC president Ripun Bora, MP Bhubaneswar Kalita and leaders of other parties and organizations also paid tribute to the filmmaker.
