GUWAHATI, Oct 14 : Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi inaugurated the Bishnupur Durga Puja at Bisnupur in the city today. This has been stated in a Government press release.
The Governor said that the ceremonial worship of the mother goddess, is one of the most important festivals of India. Apart from being a religious festival for the Hindus, it is also an occasion for reunion and rejuvenation, and a celebration of traditional, culture and customs.
The Governor also asked the puja committee to see whether all the facilities are put into place and asked to maintain swachhata. Mukhi also prayed for the welfare of all and build up universal fraternity and peaceful co-existence.
The Governor hailed the Bishnupur Sarbajanin Durga Puja Committee for celebrating the durga puja for the 68th year and appreciated for the theme of the year which is My India. . He also thanked the organiser for being invited to the programme which gave him an opportunity to have a darshan of the Goddess.
Puja secretary Pijush Kanti Dey, president Chandan Paul, artist of the pandal Manjit Kalita along with a host of other dignitaries and visitors were present at the function, the release added.
