Nurses are an embodiment of pride and prestige: Mukhi

GUWAHATI: ‘It is an established norm that the Nurses are the backbone of a hospital. But Nursing is not just the backbone of a hospital but the tiara that adorns the head. An embodiment of pride and prestige, a perfect combination of clinical acumen and emotional intelligence’, said Assam Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi at the Graduation Day of Asian Institute of Nursing Education held at the Convention and Training Centre, PWD in the city on Friday.

Addressing the students, the Governor urged that proper focus needs to be given for creating the transformational leadership capacity of the nurses and they should be prepared for any eventualities so that the nursing fraternity can serve mankind in well and owes. Nurses need to know how they can be part of the solution to achieve better patient outcomes and also to prevent disease, provide care management to an aging, sicker, and more diverse population.

Prof. Mukhi said, ‘Healthcare today is at a tipping point. We are witnessing a revolution with increased disease burden, technology taking centre stage, insurance boom, growing consumerism, increased patient literacy, proliferation of public private partnership, corporatization of healthcare, media attention, increasing litigation, a present and impending manpower crisis and the struggles of delivering safe healthcare in this continuously evolving ecosystem. The Nurses continue with their commitment of being on the forefront of the changing healthcare landscape.’

The Governor further said that the growing attrition and reduced enrolment rates will cripple healthcare system and urgent strategies need to be deployed. Students should be brought into the profession and retain them by creating a healthy and nurturing milieu where they have abundant opportunities to learn and grow.

Prof. Jagdish Mukhi said that the nurses are the torchbearers, the forerunners, the crusaders and the creators of changes. The tender loving care they deliver is the magic that inspires hope, warmth and a sense of ease in the patients. He hailed Asian Institute of Nursing Education for preparing the student in holistic manner and giving them opportunity for personal, social and intellectual development to make them strong health care professional.
