Guild deserves credit, says Assam Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi

Guwahati, July 11: Assam Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi inaugurated the dedicated building of Gauhati Artists’ Guild at a programme held here on Wednesday evening. The building was built on a plot of land given by Government of Assam, a Raj Bhavan communiqué said.

Speaking on the occasion, Governor Prof Mukhi termed Gauhati Artists’ Guild as a premier organization and a forerunner in the field of Art and Culture in North East India. The organization has proudly taken the responsibility to promote arts of North East to the entire world. Getting a building which is exclusively its own would help the Guild to take its services more resolutely transcending all boundaries, the Governor added.

At the programme which has been organized synchronizing with the 46th foundation day of the Guild, the Governor said that Gauhati Artists’ Guild deserves credit for being an ardent exponent of art and culture for the last 46 years. “I am happy to know that the new building named ‘Dream Art Complex’ at Chandmari is self-contained with artistically designed and planned architecture creating space for Art Galleries, Artists’ Studio, and spaces for resident and guest Artist, with state of art aesthetically designed spaces for creative work, and dwelling”, the Governor stated.

The building has separate conference halls and board rooms with provisions for ICT enabled infrastructure, promoting Art Education amongst the growing generations, through regular Children Art courses and Condensed Art courses. The institution is among the forerunners in the field of Art & Culture in North east India. “I hope with the inauguration of permanent building the Artists’ Guild will be in a better position to pursue its mission and vision and become a perfect patronage of art and culture of the North East”, Prof. Mukhi quipped.

On the occasion, Governor Prof. Mukhi also felicitated artist Pulak Gogoi. He also visited an exhibition of Masks by Govt College of Art and Craft. Prominent writer Nirupama borgohain, President, Gauhati Artists’ Guild Aminul Haque along with a host of dignitaries were present on the occasion, the communiqué added.
