GUWAHATI: Gunotsav 2022 – the educational exercise to evaluate students across all government schools– will be launched in the State in three phases from May 11, 2022.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Gunotsav could not be conducted for two years. This year, Gunotsav will be held in three phrases. The first phase of Gunotsav will be held from May 11 to May 14, second phase from May 23 to May 26 and the third phase from June 1 to June 4.

Gunotsav will be conducted in total 46,251 schools. This will include 45,825 government/ provincialized elementary and high schools and 426 tea garden management schools. A total of 42,51,524 students of Class I to Class IX will participate in the educational exercise. A total of 18,752 External Evaluators (EEs) have been appointed for the ensuing edition of Gunotsav.

Scholastic evaluation will be doen for Class I to Class IX. However, as the new academic session started in April, students will be given question papers pertaining to one class lower. On the day of external evaluation, evaluation will be done for all the students on three skills (Reading, Writing & Numeracy/ Basic Mathematical Operations) and subject areas. The external evaluator will randomly select 20 per cent students for each of the three skills (Reading, Writing & Numeracy) and will assess their performance. He/she will closely monitor the overall evaluation process.

Self-evaluation will be now held in 11 districts - Biswanath, Bongaigaon, Charaideo, Darrang, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Goalpara, Karimganj, Karbi Anglong, Nagaon and Nalbari districts - on May 11, while external evaluation in these districts will be held on May 12, May 13 and May 14. Similarly, self-evaluation will be now held in the Barpeta, Golaghat, Hailakandi, Hojai, Kamrup, Kokrajhar, Majuli, Morigaon, Sivasagar, South Salmara-Mankachar, Tinsukia and Udalguri districts on May 23, while external evaluation will be held on May 24, May 25 and May 26. On the other hand, self-evaluation will be held in the Baksa, Cachar, Chirang, Dhubri, Dima Hasao, Jorhat, Kamrup (Metro), Lakhimpur, Sonitpur and West Karbi Anglong districts on June 1, while external evaluation will be held on June 2, June 3 and June 4.

The objective of Gunotsav is to identify learning gaps, to ensure learning enhancement and achievement of learning outcomes by all children at the primary level, to assess the performance of schools in areas like curricular, co-curricular, availability and utilization of infrastructure, to indicate learning gaps and to design effective strategies to meet up these gaps, to ensure greater participation of all stakeholders starting from teachers, students, administrators, communities and enhance accountability among them for quality education, and to support the school and education system so as to improve the quality of education and ensure better functioning of schools.
