Gunotsav to cover more than 46,000 schools, 42 lakh students across Assam

GUWAHATI: The forthcoming Gunotsav 2022 will cover 46,251 schools and evaluate 42,51,524 students across the State.

The Education Department will conduct the Gunotsav 2022 in three phases between April 20 and May 12.

An official of the Sarba Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), Assam said that these 46,251 schools will include 45,825 Government/provincialized elementary schools, high schools and higher secondary schools. These apart, the Gunotsav will also cover 4,26 schools run by various tea garden managements.

The 42,51,524 students will include 5,86,730 students of Class-I; 5,33,019 students of Class-II; 5,15,437 students of Class-III; 5,01,480 students of Class-IV; 5,06,539 students of Class-V; 4,30,627 students of Class-VI; 4,17,442 students of Class-VII; 3,93,863 students of Class-VIII; and 3,66,387 students of Class-IX.

The official said that scholastic evaluation will be done of students from Class-I to Class-IX. However, in view of the fact that the new academic session will start in April, students will be given question papers which will pertain to one Class lower. Consequently, students newly-promoted to Class-II will be given questions papers meant for Class-I and so on for the other Classes. Further, those Class-V and Class-VIII students of the current academic session of 2021-2022, who will be in Class-VI and Class-IX respectively in the 2022-2023 academic session in some other schools, will have to appear for the Gunotsav evaluation in their original schools.

The first phase, to be held on April 20, April 21 and April 22, will cover Baksa, Chirang, Dhubri, Dima Hasao, Hailakandi, Jorhat, Kamrup (Metro), Lakhimpur, Sonitpur and West Karbi Anglong districts.

The second phase to be held on April 25, April 26 and April 27, will cover Biswanath, Bongaigaon, Charaideo, Darrang, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Goalpara, Karbi Anglong, Karimganj, Nagaon and Nalbari districts.

The third phase of Gunotsav, to be held on May 10, May 11 and May 12, will cover Barpeta, Cachar, Golaghat, Hojai, Kamrup, Kokrajhar, Majuli, Morigaon, Sivasagar, South Salmara-Mankachar, Tinsukia and Udalguri.

It may be mentioned that Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had presided over a review meeting of the Education Department on January 23. Apart from finalizing the time frame of Gunotsav 2022, it was decided at the meeting that Grade-I and Grade-II Government officers along with college teachers and post-graduate teachers would be engaged as external evaluators in the event. Besides, it was decided that retired Grade-I and Grade-II officers, retired reputed professors/teachers and Central Government employees may also be deputed as external evaluators.
