GUWAHATI : The city witnessed an episode of mob lynching on Thursday, leading to a death and arrest of 11 accused persons .

The incident took place in Adagudam area of Guwahati's Fatasil Ambari  on Thursday. Guwahati police has reportedly arrested 11 people linked with the lynching. The deceased has been identified as Sunil Sharma. 

The unfortunate event occurred at around 3am in a construction site, when the youth was caught stealing mobile phones of the labourers working in the site. The workers bashed him brutally and left the place. The locals informed the police as soon as they saw the boy covered in blood. The police arrived to the spot and took him to Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), where the doctors declared him as brought dead. 

The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Debasish Borah stated that, the victim was a drug addict. He was found stealing mobile phones of a few construction site workers. The labourers are a resident of Kokrajhar and Dhubri district. As per the police, the workers were working in a commercial place in Adagudam area. 

The labourers are identified as Nurul Islam, Mukbul Hussain, Amir Hamja, Ajahar Ali, Munnag Ali, Abdul Rejak, Jamirul Hussain, Majibur Ali, Abdul Rakhib Ali, Manik Ali and Nizamuddin. According to the post mortem, the cause of death came out as brutal physical assault that led to the the death of Sunil Sarma. Moreover, the people engaged in the crime confessed and agreed to the fact that they beat him for trying to steal their phones, added the DCP. 

The commissioner of police also confirmed that the deceased was a drug addict, as a syringe and small container of psychotropic substance was found by the police from him.
