

GUWAHATI: The city police on Monday recovered a half-decomposed body of a 28-year-old youth at Sarathi Path in Guwahati's Hengrabari area.
The deceased has been identified as Dipankar Saikia.
Dipankar Saikia originally hailed from Lakhimpur and was staying at a rented accomodation in Sarathi path for the past couple of years.
According to the preliminary investigation, police suspect that the victim might have committed suicide.
Sources informed that the youth working at the VLCC parlour in Christian Basti in Guwahati.
Meanwhile, the body of the youth has been sent for an autopsy.
Earlier on Sunday last, a youth went missing after jumping into the river Brahmaputra from the Saraighat Bridge.
According to eyewitnesses, the youth hung on to the railing of the bridge for around half-an-hour and kept on saying that he would jump into the river. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), the local people and the city police all made an effort to convince him not to take the drastic step, but the youth eventually jumped into the river, the eyewitnesses added.
SDRF sources said that after the youth jumped into the river, they pursued him with their rescue boats and attempted to give him a life jacket, but he disregarded them and dove inside the water.
