GUWAHATI: The Assam State AIDS Control Society (ASACS) organised the state-level marathon competition titled ‘Red Run Assam 2023’on Saturday in order to create HIV awareness amongst the youth, especially amongst the college students. The competition saw the participation of more than 100 students from different colleges across Assam. The marathon, which covered a distance of 7 km from Veterinary Playground, Khanapara, through Jayanagar, to Six Mile, Panjabari, and back to Veterinary Playground, was flagged off by noted sportsperson Kushal Lahon along with Project Director of ASACS Megha Nidhi Dahal, IAS. Speaking on the occasion, Dahal said that the objective of the competition is to spread HIV awareness amongst the youth and urged the participants to stay away from all kinds of high-risk behaviours that may lead to HIV. The competition was held in three categories male, female, and transgender.

The winner in the male category is Khadim Ali from Hamidabad College, Dhubri. The first runner-up in the male category is Dimasha Brahma of Bodofa UN Brahma College. In the female category, the winner is Gita Urang from Doomdooma College, and the first runner-up is Namila Kherkatary from Dibrugarh University. In the transgender category, Megha (name changed) won the first prize, and Niky (name changed) won the second prize. The winners will receive Rs 30,000 in each category, along with certificates. The winner and the runner-up in the male and female categories will participate in the national-level Red Run 2023, which will be held in Goa on October 8, 2023, stated a press release.
