Guwahati-Based Ola Customer Sends Notice To Company For Sharing His Data Publically

New Delhi: Ola Electric which is in the headlines for its scooters has landed itself in trouble again with regards to the data privacy rights of its customers.

Recently, a son of Guwahati-based customer Balwant Singh met with a serious accident on April 15, following which Singh blamed the regenerative braking of the scooter for the mishap.

Later, the company defended itself and shared telemetry data on social media platforms that suggested that the scooter was being driven rashly. Since the company shared these data in the public domain; Singh has taken exception to the company for not respecting his data privacy rights and has shot a notice for the same.

"You are hereby notified to take down the telemetry data of my scooter from your social media accounts across the internet at the earliest failure to which I will be bound to take legal action against your company," Singh said in a notice to Ola on Tuesday.

"Ola and I had signed an agreement of sharing data only for your private access. The posting of telemetry data online in the public medium is a breach of privacy agreement between me the User and Ola Electric the seller," ET quoted him as saying.

"When I had a talk with Ola Executive Mr. Chandan Kumar to share the data with me, he had insisted that this data was proprietary of Ola Electric and could not be shared with others or 3rd parties. Yet you violated your own terms and conditions and revealed the data to all," he added.

Taking to micro-blogging site Twitter, Singh also acknowledged the same and said, ''Privacy violation is not a joke. Doxxing by Companies is a Serious Offence. If we could allow this today, what would stop @Meta from sharing your @WhatsApp conversations just to destroy your credibility in public so that you don't raise your voice ever again?''
