Guwahati celebrated 551st Guru Nanak Jayanti

Guwahati: Along with different parts of the country, Guwahati too celebrated the 551st birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev on the occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti on Monday.

The celebrations of Gurpurab or Guru Nanak Jayanti was celebrated in the Gurudwara in the Ulubari area and at the Fancy Bazar area of the Guwahati city.

A spokesperson of the organizer said," The holy Akhand Path was started on November 28 at 10 AM and it ended by 10 AM today. After that everyone paid Shrdhanjali (Tribute) to the first Sikh guru, Guru Nanak Dev ji."

The Sikh community people have celebrated the holy occasion abiding by all the Covid-19 protocol.

Every year, the celebration of Gurpurab or Prakash Utsav which is also known as Guru Nanak Jayanti is marked in Purnima tithi (Full moon) in the Kartik month of the Hindu calendar.

It is one of the most auspicious and important days in Sikhism.

According to the Indian lunar calendar, the date of Gurpurab varies from year to year.

The celebration of the Guru Nanak Jayanti begins 15 days before his birth anniversary and two days ahead of Gurpurab, Akhand Path a 48-hour non-stop reading of Guru Granth Sahib, the holy book of the Sikhs is held in the Gurdwaras. Nagar Kirtan is organized in communities a day before Gurpurab.
