GUWAHATI: The 10th All India Conference of the BSNL Employees' Union will be held in the city from April 2 to April 4.
Disclosing this at a press conference here on Thursday, P Abhimanyu, general secretary of the union, said that all private telecom companies had increased their tariff in December last year, but the BSNL did not do so. This was because the BSNL strives to serve the poorer sections of society as well, he said.
However, the Central Government is now planning to hand over the BSNL to private players, which would inevitably lead to higher tariffs and the common people would have to bear the burden, Abhimanyu said.
He added that the forthcoming conference will deliberate on crucial issues such as ways and means to improve the quality of service provided by the BSNL, wage revision of current staff and pension revision of retired employees.
